Run # 957 was a great killer trail the “Viet Cong Trail”. Ran at Minh Dam Base with the down down at the temple carpark, thirty-three happy hashers rolled up the home of the Hash the “Pacific Bia Tuoi” ready to go. After registrations were complete the hash bus was packed with beer, softies and food. We set off to collect our Russian hasher team at the Russian Village then on to Minh Dam. The chalk talk was delivered by Twenty-Three advising hashers, good luck this is a killer trail see you at the end. With excitement we set off along a path to the base of the mountain, making a sharp right turn we headed up the side of the mountain with the lookout as the target. The weather was brilliant with a little cloud cover and beaming sunlight as we headed up the mountain in a steep ascent, which was only the beginning of the grueling trail. Clambering over large boulders, slipping in the mud with vines and trees as the only support. Up and up we went but the ascent did not get any easier, steeper and steeper the mountain side got, the trail being a well-used Viet Cong Trail in previous years. After one hour we finally reached the lookout at the pinnacle of Minh Dam where the usual selfies took place in the brilliant afternoon sunlight. The next part of the trail was the underground caves visit where the hashers eagerly descended into the abyss of the cave popping up at the other side one by one. Heading back to the carpark the hashers climbed the massive tree growing next to a large rock formation and the usual selfies were taken. The down down kicked into gear with the usual guzzling of icy cold beer to cool down, eating our hash banh mi, and Captain Morgan’s beef stew followed up by fruit and more beer. The circle commenced, virgins were welcomed, returnees doused with beer and sinners which there were a few were soaked in beer. It was Twenty-Three’s birthday, so we gorged ourselves on a beautiful birthday cake. Music was provided by our hash DJ then the party got into full swing. We danced and chatted the afternoon away for two hours, as the sun began to set the rain threatened the hashers piled into the hash bus with a full eskie of beer we set off in the dusk back to the hash home at the Bia Toui – On On
